Czech Language facts

The Czech Republic is the only country which recognizes Czech as its official language. Czech also holds the upper hand in the European Union. Czech is spoken by 13 million people in the Czech Republic.

The people who speak Czech as an official language reside in Slovakia, Romania, Russia, Ukraine, and the United States.

Czech belongs to the Indo-European language. It is categorized under the Slavic sub-group. Czech and Slovak are different languages, but very closely related. It is understood by the mutual native speakers.

Czech Language history

In the 6th Century, Slavic tribes migrated to the land called Czech Republic. The ethnicity residing in the Czech Republic did not change till the 6th Century. The Slavic ethnic tribe used to reside in the Czech Republic. People from Austria, Slovakia, and Poland used to settle in the Czech Republic. People from Hungarian rule came to the Czech Republic and started to settle down. This came to an end to the Moravian empire. This led to the beginning of the Premyslids dynasty. For the next centuries, it was ruled by this dynasty. It was ruled by the Bohemian dynasty which was constantly under war.

In 1348, King Charles IV, of Luxembourg, founded Charles University in Prague. It is one of the earliest institutions in Europe.

Around World War 1 the Czech Republic was divided under Hungarian and Russian power. Many soldiers did not fight for Indo-Hungarian and fought for Russian states. The Czech Republic was not under the Austro-Hungarian Empire. Czech and Slovak communities came together and formed Czechoslovakia. It was a sovereign state. In 1918, under the first president Tomas people from different regions came and settled here and established a region unharmed by outside forces.

In 1938 Hitler and the German Empire invaded Czechoslovakia, and the peace was ended. Prague is the capital of Czechoslovakia, and it has strong ties with the European Union. The numerous museums, churches, and libraries have made Prague a popular tourist spot in the whole world. Prague Castle is an important tourist destination and a lot of tourists come here to visit.

The Czech Republic played a major role in World War 1 and the Cold War.
