Swahili facts

The most significant language of the African Continent is Swahili. It is included in the Bantu language group. According to different research groups, Swahili is spoken by 50-60 million people in Africa. It is the most popular language in Africa. It is spoken in Uganda, Kenya, and Tanzania. Swahili History

The origin started in the 6th Century when Swahili was considered as the language of slaves. Zanzibar was ruled by the Arabs, and they spread this language as they wanted to expand their trade with the locals. As the number of trading routes increased the traders were introduced to this language often. They wanted to trade with locals and the local's language was Swahili.

By the end of the 18th Century, there were written examples of Swahili language. The 19th Century involved changes in the Swahili language. As the Arab rule ended and European rule started. The language was influenced by Latin and opposed Arabic.

After World War || Swahili became the official language of the entire population of British South Africa. Swahili was introduced in the elementary education system. During the fight for independence, Swahili anticolonial propaganda was launched. After obtaining independence all free states have used Swahili as a medium of education. The primary language of education is Swahili.

Scientific interest has been increased in this language. In many countries like China, the USA, and Japan Swahili is under research object. At Yale University there are special programs to study the Swahili language. It has a great linguistic culture.

One of the Tanzanian universities has opened a department, where all the technicalities are being discussed. The department discusses all the cultural and linguistic options for the language.
